Why apply for Octopus Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS)?

Enjoy cash rebate

You can earn up to 2.5% cash rebate every time you top up your credit card with designated credit cards such as EarnMORE UnionPay Card, Simply Cash Visa Card, etc. cash rebate. It is worth noting that AAVS only reloads once a day and there is a cap on cashback earnings.

Link up Octopus AAVS with designated credit cards such as Citi Prestige Card and DBS Black World Mastercard to earn air miles for free air tickets, accommodation and rental services.

Enjoy welcome offers

Although cardholders cannot top-up O! ePay directly, new customers can still make use of an octopus card and a mobile phone supporting NFC function to top up in order to earn welcome offers. After card issuance, cardholders are required to first sign up for AAVS first before reloading Octopus daily for transferring funds to O! ePay account until meeting the minimum spending requirement for credit card welcome offers. Although it requires much effort, cardholders can get welcome offers with no extra cost.

Points to note for AAVS with credit cards

  • Reload limit: AAVS only reloads once and the amount is between HK$150/HK$250/HK$500/HK$1,000, depending on cardholders’ preference.
  • Loss of Octopus Card: In case you lose your Octopus card with AAVS, you should immediately call the Lost Octopus Reporting Hotline on 2266 2266 to minimise your loss because you are still liable to the expenses of the card for the first three hours.
  • Apply for AAVS for more than one credit card: You can apply AAVS for up to 8 octopus cards, including Up to 5 for self and 3 for family/friends (aged 12+).

    • How to apply for Octopus Automatic Add Value Service?

    To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid credit card from a participating bank:

    Step 1

    Choose your bank

    The applicant can select one credit card from the list of recommended credit cards from the above. Things you may want to consider include the type of rewards (cash back or miles) and the reload amount.

    Step 2

    Submit your application

    Fill in your personal particulars on the application form and submit it to your chosen bank, which will then process your application.

    Step 3

    Activate your AAVS

    It takes 1-2 weeks to process your application. Once approved, an activation letter will be mailed to you. You can then activate your AAVS function in the Octopus App or with an Octopus PC Reader via the Internet.

    FAQ

    Is Octopus Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS) available for all credit cards?

    No. You can only link up AAVS with designated credit cards such as the above selected credit cards recommended by MoneySmart such as EarnMORE UnionPay Card, Standard Chartered Simply Cash Visa Card, Citi Cash Back Card, Citi Octopus Platinum Card, Standard Chartered Asia Miles Mastercard, Citi Prestige Card and DBS Black World Mastercard, etc.

    Is there a fee for applying for AAVS?

    There is no fee for applying for AAVS. Instead, some banks provide applicants with welcome offers for applying for AAVS. For example, HSBC offers HK$50 spending rebates for customers who link up AAVS with HSBC credit cards before 30 June 2020.

    How to activate AAVS upon successful application?

    For Android users, the simplest way is to download Octopus App and activate the service on the applications. Non-Android users need to buy a compatible Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled mobile device to activate AAVS.

    How can I change my AAVS from one bank to another?

    To switch to a new bank, you just have to fill in and submit an application form to the newly designated bank. Please note that you will be required to pay a HK$20 handling fee.

    How can I cancel the AAVS?

    You can call Octopus Customer Service Hotline on 2266 2222 to cancel the AAVS. An authorisation letter for deactivating the AAVS function on your Octopus will be mailed to you accordingly. You are required to present this letter and your Octopus card to any MTR Customer Service Centre within 10 calendar days to cancel the AAVS.
