UnionPay exchange rates for currencies like CNY and HKD are good. For cards that are in Hong Kong dollars (HKD), the current exchange rate is 1000CNY = HK$1,116 as of 14th February. In comparison, Visa’s rate is 1000CNY = HK$1,116, while MasterCard’s rate is 1000CNY = HK$1115. Although the foreign exchange rate of UnionPay is usually worse than Visa and Mastercard, UnionPay does not require overseas transaction fee while Visa and Mastercard charge 2% for every transaction.
